Trey Anastasio latest Gig? A new musical. Made in America. Inspired by true events

Trey Anastasio ( Phish ) is an American guitarist, composer, and vocalist noted for his work with the rock band Phish, and his orchestral "Evenings with Trey Anastasio" performed with the New York Philharmonic. Anastasio was born in Fort Worth, Texas, his father, Ernest Anastasio Jr., was an executive vice president at the Educational Testing Service. His mother Dina was a children's book author and editor of Sesame Street Magazine.

Anastasio will soon release Blue Ash And Other Suburbs, a limited edition picture disc vinyl On Record Store Day 2013, available exclusively at participating independently owned record stores across the country beginning Saturday, April 20th. To get his latest gig, Phish founder  successfully wooed Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Doug Wright over a plate of enchiladas — turning the 1997 documentary ‘‘Hands on a Hardbody’’ into a stage musical.  A new musical about a car dealership contest in Texas might not be what you would expect from the Phish frontman. Hands on a Hard Body: The Documentary is a 1997 film directed by S. R. Bindler documenting an endurance competition that took place in Longview, Texas. The yearly competition pits twenty-four contestants against each other to see who can keep their hand on a pickup truck for the longest amount of time. Whoever endures the longest without leaning on the truck or squatting wins the truck. Five minute breaks are issued every hour and fifteen minute breaks every six hours.

But what inspired Phish founder Trey Anastasio to embrace the story and make it to
Broadway? . . .  Perseverance, Character, and a Celebration to modern America.

Should You See It? . . . Set on a sweltering Nissan car lot, Hands on a Hardbody tells the story of 10 working-class Texans who would do anything to win a new pick-up truck. Based on a real contest in Longview, Texas, the musical's competitors must stand in the sun for days on end with their hands on the truck—and the last person standing is the winner. We’re introduced to Kelli Mangrum, a dreamer who wants to sell the truck to move to L.A.; J.D. Drew, the oldest contestant; Norma Valverde, who relies on her faith in God to make it through the competition; and Benny Perkins, who has already won the contest once before, and more. As the battle for the truck continues for days, Hands on a Hardbody is an uplifting musical about fighting for a piece of the American dream. This is a feel-good musical that will leave you humming and cheering for your favorite contestants.  Hands on a Hardbody, A – BROADWAY!

"Bad things do happen; how I respond to them defines my character and the quality of my life. I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness, immobilized by the gravity of my loss, or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have - life itself".--- Walter Anderson

"Hard work spotlights the character of people: some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don't turn up at all."---Sam Ewing

"The Man Who Owned Broadway"

An American entertainer , playwright, composer, lyricist, actor, singer, dancer and producer. He was considered the father of American musical comedy. A remarkable talent who displayed  theatrical longevity, appearing in films until the 1930s, and continuing to perform as a headline artist until 1940.   His name was George Michael Cohan , born in 1878 in Providence, Rhode Island, to Irish Catholic parents. A baptismal certificate (which gave the wrong first name for his mother) indicated that he was born on July 3, but Cohan and his family always insisted that George had been "born on the Fourth of July!" George's parents were traveling vaudeville performers, and he joined them on stage while still an infant, first as a prop, learning to dance and sing soon after he could walk and talk.   Cohan began his career as a child, performing with his parents and sister in a vaudeville act known as " The Four Cohans ." Beginning with Little Johnny Jone...

To make all the published works of humankind available to everyone in the world.―

The ultimate goal of the Open Library While large in scope and ambition, this goal is within our grasp. Achieving it will require the participation of librarians, authors, government officials and technologists. Imagine what a comprehensive, open library could be! A talented math whiz who lives in a rural community can explore the works of high math. An elderly person can have a large print edition of any book ever published. An innovative young scholar can publish a book directly to this great library on subjects that might not otherwise make it through the long and difficult publication process. How can you help? Improve the records we have for the books you love – every record is fully editable by clicking the “edit” button on the page. If Open Library don't have a record for a book, you can create one where logged users are allowed to add records on Open Library.  If you're a library with digitized resources, tell Open Library where they are and they will point peo...

The practice had evolved from commonplace books, a Renaissance tradition of compiling important and memorable information into bound sheets of paper. Students were encouraged to keep the books during class, and eventually they became a place to store anything and everything their owners found interesting-including the signatures of other classmates.
